Fantastic win in Fethard

- U18.5 Fethard 20 Mitchelstown 25

On Sunday last, we travelled to Fethard to take on the local team in the very impressive town park where the game was played on the pristine 4G pitch in perfect conditions.

As we haven’t played a game since late November, there was a concern we might have been rusty, but that was soon put to bed when after a number of hard phases the ball went wide to Dan Turley who carried forward and set up for

Aidan O’Mahony to crash over the line from close range.

Soon after we had a 5m attacking scrum, Andrew McEnaney controlled the ball brilliantly at the base and carried forward to be held just short of the line, Stephen Flynn finished off the move with a close range finish. Our momentum kept pace with Sean O’Grady adding a penalty and a try from Josh Kearney after great play on the wing from Conor Dooling.

Fethard gained a foothold in the second half and had us under pressure throughout with a very spirited fightback. Ben Cooke’s try from a 7m tap and go being the difference at the end as we held out for a very deserved 25-20 win. While those named lead to scores this was an absolute team effort from all 20 who contributed to a fantastic win.

Our next game is at home v Desmond (Newcastle west/Abbeyfeale) on Saturday, January 27th.

Team and subs: Conor Dooling, Darragh Casey, Josh Kearney, Ben Cotter, Sean O’Grady, Tommy English, Gearoid Desmond, Jason O’Brien, Andrew McEnaney, Aidan O’Mahony, Ben Cooke, Louis Gorey, Eoghan Kelly, Will Murphy, Sean Gorry, Jack O’Brien, Jack Kelly, Lorcan Murray, Stephen Flynn and Dan Turley.
