Tullogher-Rosbercon lead all through to take All-Ireland crown
Tullogher-Rosbercon 2-21 St Catherines 1-13
Tullogher-Rosbercon were deserving winners over St Catherines in the All-Ireland JHC final at Croke Park on Saturday in cold but dry conditions.
The winners led from the start and Cian O'Donoghue opened with an early free, following which Pat Hartley and Danny Glennon worked well for Marty Murphy, who goaled. A Sean O'Donoghue free opened St Catherines account. Cian O'Donoghue pointed a sideline and followed with a point, as the winners led 1-3 to 0-1.
Tullogher-Rosbercon were very prominent in the half backline and midfield sectors. Sean O'Donoghue pointed a free for the east
Cork side. Walter Walsh and Brian Mulcahy exchanged points, while Rory Galvin pointed for Catherines. In the 16th minute Walter Walsh soloed through and goaled as the Leinster side led 2-5 to 0-3.
St Catherines lacked penetration up front. Eoin Davis pointed a long range free. Cian O'Donoghue had his 5th point by the 18th minute, leaving the score 2-7 to 0-4. Conor Hennessy soloed through and pointed. Good play by Walter Walsh led to a Cian O'Donoghue point. Sean O'Donoghue pointed another free for St Catherines.
Thomastown had a series of points that had them 2-13 to 0-6 clear. Eoin Davis (free) and Kyle Wallace kept the Cork side in touch, as in injury time, Cian O'Donoghue and Sean O'Donoghue exchanged pointed frees, seeing Tullogher-Rosbercon enjoy an interval lead of 2-14 to 0-9.
UPHILL CHALLENGE
St Catherines made 3 changes on the resumption, introducing Eoin Wallace, Gearoid O'Brien and Conor Hegarty. Eoin Davis kept his side in touch with a free. In the 38th minute Oisin Fitzgerald landed a long range point. Further pressure by Tullogher yielded rapid points courtesy of Conor Hennessy, Daniel Glennon and Walter Walsh, as they moved 2-17 to 0-11 clear.
Conor Hennessy had a very
good point, before Cian O'Donoghue, with a free, converted two points, making it 2-20 to 0-12.
Both sides introduced substitutes. Rory Galvin had a well taken goal for the Saints in the 63rd minute and the final whistle followed.
Larry McCarthy, president GAA, presented the AIB sponsored cup to the winning captain, Colman O'Sullivan. Tullogher veteran, Pat Hartley, was named man of the match, being presented with his AIB trophy by Ciaran McGann.
