U16 JOHN COOKE FOUNDERS CUP Fermoy A 5 Macroom A 3

Fermoy hosted Macroom in the cup in a rearranged match that was cancelled last weekend due to an unplayable pitch in Macroom.

Our lads started slowly and lost our influential midfielder and skipper Jamie by the end of the first quarter. We were soon 2 down after some hesitation in our defence was punished by the visitors.

We got a fortunate opening goal and the game was held up for several minutes while repairs were made to the goal. During this break a number of changes to our playing personnel were made and this soon had the desired effect when the lads equalised on the stroke of half-time.

We took the lead early in the second half and things were looking good until Macroom equalised.

Our lads responded well to this setback and got a goal from a penalty and added another to finish the scoring and through to the final 16. Back to the league next weekend and training at Tuesday night at 7pm.

U12 NATIONAL TROPHY St Mary's 2 - Fermoy 0 (AET)

Our U12s arrived at Mary's Park this morning with a depleted squad. However, this did not faze our guys one bit. The first 15 minutes Mary's enjoyed more of the possession without creating many opportunities. The more the game went on Fermoy took control and like Mary's, could not create clear cut opportunities.

The 2nd half was more the same with both defences not giving an inch. 0-0 ft. Extra-time loomed and St Mary's made numerous changes to freshen up things which with a bare minimum we could not match. It was the difference, as our boys had given everything in the match to see it to et.

5mins in and Mary's pounced on a loose ball and opened the scoring. Towards the end of the 1st half of et then a sucker punch saw the hosts extend the lead to 2. That's how it finished. Fair play to our boys they gave it everything and should be proud of their performance.

U15 LEAGUE Leeds 3 Fermoy 0

Fermoy U15s made the trip away to Leeds who sit second in the league. On a cloudy dry cold winters morning, Leeds started the brighter and came close within the first minute. Fermoy settled into the game as both sides created half chances.

Halfway through the first half, Lucas’ kickout found Daniel in space, and his shot scraped the outside of the post (so close but yet so far). As both teams battled, it was Leeds who broke the deadlock as their right winger got in behind our defence and squared the ball for a tap in for their striker. Fermoy kept battling but conceded a soft penalty, which was dispatched. 2-0 at the break.

Onto the second half. Fermoy pushed and pushed without creating any clear-cut chances, just some half chances but unfortunately didn't really trouble the keeper. Leeds added a third from a corner where their player rose highest to head the ball into the net. Hard luck today, lads, and best of luck to Leeds in their remaining fixture.

U13 DIVISION 1 Mallow United 3 Fermoy 0

What was going to be a tough assignment normally, was made slightly tougher with a few players out of action. Saturday saw the in-form Mallow take on Fermoy.

The game started even enough with both sides finding their feet. Oran, our left back who put his hand up to play in goal, swept very well and was assured in his handling. Mallow struck the first from a corner to take the lead. Sean, Ned, Niall and Darragh were doing a good job holding out until Mallow broke and got a second midway through the half.

Aodhan and Cathal keep the midfield in order and supported Ciaran, Conor and Trysten. Henry led the line very well in what was a difficult game to play in. Mallow ended the half with a third goal and had the game more or less done.

But again credit to the lads as they worked extremely hard to get back into the game and had chances to do so. We brought on Gavin and Benjamin for 20 minutes and for these two U12 players it was a great experience and they more than acquitted themselves in the process.

U12 GIRLS

Blarney 1 Fermoy 0

Our U12 squad travelled to Blarney last Saturday evening to take on the local side in the Denise McCardle Moore Cup. Early exchanges were even enough with our midfield of Sarah Crowley, Sarah Hanrahan and Anna Dowling competing strongly and creating some openings for our forward duo of Cassie Cahill and Meabhdh Howe who kept the Blarney rearguard busy.

As the half wore on Blarney came more into it and started to exert some pressure but could not get past our defence of Aoife Mannix, Ciara O'Donovan and Erin O'Mahony who were superbly marshalled by goalkeeper Ola Strojewska. However, the pressure finally told on the 25th minute when Blarney scored after a long ball from defence.

A few positional changes at half time saw Ola and Cassie swap positions, with Eimear McCarthy and Beibhin O'Donovan strengthen our midfield. Neither side could fashion any clear cut chances with both defences on top with much of the play around the middle.

We did fashion a few half chances following good play from Eimear, Sarah and Ola but Blarney showed their experience and were able to close out the game. Final score: Blarney 1 Fermoy 0. While the result did not go our way it was an excellent performance from our squad against a team who are flying high in Div 1 and are unbeaten this season. We can take a lot of confidence from this as we continue the cup competitions and get back to league action.
