Fit-Up Theatre Festival to take to the Blackwater Valley

The Fit-Up Theatre Festival gets underway across the Blackwater Valley soon, with a variety of production­s locally, with Bartlemy Community Hall set to host the first of the events on Wednesday next, January 24 at 8pm.

‘THE EMPTY NEST’

Written by emerging Irish playwright, Oisín Flores Sweeney and directed by Geoff Gould, ‘The Empty Nest’ stars Irish Times Theatre award nominee Seamus O’Rourke and Joan Sheehy, actor and director.

Described as a ‘hilarious piece of theatre that encompasse­s the way many Irish couples live today’, ‘The Empty Nest’ will take to four other stages across the festival. On Thursday, January 25 at 8pm, the production will hit Inch Community Hall, before moving to Ballynoe on Friday, January 26, Kill Community Hall on the 27th and finally, The Palace Theatre in Fermoy on Sunday, January 28.

‘THE BALLAD OF MOSSY FLOOD’

Big Guerilla Production­s presents ‘The Ballad of Mossy Flood’ in Bartlemy on Wednesday, January 31 at 8pm, as written, directed and produced by Seamus O’Rourke.

“Mossy Flood has a knack of going the long way around a story. In so doing, he makes us laugh and examine ourselves in a way we haven’t done before,” a descriptio­n of the production reads.

The play will be staged at Inch Community Hall on February 1, Ballynoe Community Hall on February 2 at 8pm, The Mall Arts Centre in Youghal on February 3 and The Palace Theatre in Fermoy on February 4 at 8pm.

'KING'

‘King’, a show commission­ed, developed and produced by Fishamble, directed by Jim Culleton and written and performed by the award-winning Pat Kinevane, will also be staged in Bartlemy during the Fit-Up Theatre Festival. Audiences are welcomed to the production which explores themes of prejudice, privilege and resilience as Luther, a Cork man, struggles to find the confidence to live his life to the fullest.

Bartlemy will host ‘King’ on Wednesday, February 7, followed by

Inch Community Hall on February 8, Ballynoe Community Hall on February 9 and The Palace Theatre in Fermoy on February 11.

‘SEAN MOYLAN: IRISH REVOLUTION­ARY’

‘Sean Moylan: Irish Revolution­ary’ will close out the Blackwater Valley’s Fit-Up Theatre Festival. Written and performed by Michael Patric and directed by Geoff Gould, the production follows one man’s account of key events during the War of Independen­ce. It is a tribute to Sean Moylan and all who volunteere­d, many of whom paid the ultimate sacrifice.

On Tuesday, February 13 at 8pm, the production will take to Ballynoe Community Hall, followed by Bartlemy Community Hall on February 14, Inch Community Hall on the 15th and The Palace Theatre, Fermoy on Sunday, February 18.
