This very popular sports meeting came off on Sunday in exceptiona­lly fine weather. There was a large attendance and everything passed on most successful­ly. The Tallow Brass Band played some popular and patriotic airs under the conductors­hip of Mr. Malcolm, the bandmaster. Very Rev. Canon Meagher, P.P., under whose patronage these sports are usually got up, was present, as was also Rev. Father Carroll, CC, Tallow, Rev. Father John McCarthy, C.C., Ballyduff and Rev. Father Leahy, C.C., Conna.

The programme was gone through in good time and there were many close and exciting finishes as a result of Mr. Mountayne’s excellent handicappi­ng.

The first event was the cycle road race, in which nine competed. The result was:- George McGrath, Camphire 1; M. Mansfield, 2; James Lynch, 3. Won by ten yards a good third.

Boys’ Race - J. Sheehan, Tallow, 1st; J.J. Greehy, Tallow, 2nd. Fifteen competed.

100 Yards open handicap - 1st heat M. Murphy 1 yard, 1st; J. Hourihane. Tallow, scratch, 2nd. Four competed. Second heat - Laurence Buckley, 1st; J. Walsh, 2nd. Three competed. Final - J. Caples. Conna, l yard, 1st; M. Murphy, scratch, 2nd; J. Hourihane, Tallow, 3rd.

One Mile Flat - (open handicap) - J. Curley, 5yds, 1st; J. Fitzgerald, Clashmore, scratch, 2nd. Also competed - J. Pender and J. Caples.

One Mile Cycle, open handicap - J. Regan, 1st; J. Mansfield, 2nd. Seven competed.

220 Yards open handicap - J. Gallagher, Conna 1st; J. Hourihane, scratch, 2nd: Arthur Mulcahy, Conna, 3rd. Eight competed.

880 Yards open handicap - O’Riordan, Tallow, 1st; J. Curley, Tallow, 2nd. Four competed.

440 Yards open handicap - M Murphy, 1st; J. Buckley, 2nd; J. Caples, 3rd. Also competed - Walsh, Fitzgerald and Cremin.

Three-Mile Cycle open handicap - George McGrath scratch, 1st; Regan, 2 yards, 2nd; H. Mansfield, 5 yards 3rd. Also competed - M. Walsh, Clashmore; Noonan, J. Kenny and Forde.

220 Yards (confined) - J. Hourihane, scratch, 1st; O’Riordan, 2nd: J. Curley, 3rd.

Long Jump - M. Murphy, 20 ft 1 in, 1st; Spillane, 19ft 1 in. 2nd. Six competed.

Three-legged race - Spillane and Hegarty, 1st. Four couples competed.

Throwing 56lbs - J. Barry, Tallow, 1st; Barnett, Conna, 2nd.
