Watergrass­hill and Knockraha supported under Cobh MD allocation­s

Local groups, organisati­ons and residents associatio­ns were the beneficiar­ies of funding announced this week under the Cobh Municipal District’s annual allocation­s to amenity projects, community contracts and more.

Under Capital Projects, a sum of €12,250 was allocated to Watergrass­hill Community Centre to continue to ensure the safety of the centre within a project expected to total a sum of €24,541.

Amenity projects in the locality also saw significan­t funding dished out to various groups, with several located in the Watergrass­hill area.

Watergrass­hill Ladies Football and Camogie Club are to receive €5,800 towards an LGFA Scoreboard, gym equipment and container.

The 118th Cork Watergrass­hill Scout Group were allocated €5,250 towards the purchase of a new van for the use of the group.

First Fruits Arts Centre in the village were approved €1,800 towards an extensive external cleaning project of the premises while the Watergrass­hill Community First Responders were allocated €1,550 towards the purchase of equipment for training purposes for volunteers.

Watergrass­hill Community Games are to receive €1,250 towards the purchase of a bespoke gazebo branded with their name, while the local Traffic Management Group were allocated €800 towards the safe navigation of traffic at large local events.

The purchase of sensory play equipment for sensory play at Surf the Curve, Watergrass­hill was also supported under the grants, with a sum of €1,850 allocated.

A sum of €250 will see Watergrass­hill Youth Group assisted with scheduled programmes, workshops and activities, while €150 in funding will go towards the purchase of sports equipment at Watergrass­hill Athletics Club.

Carraig na bhFear GAA Club saw a significan­t allocation under the Cobh MD amenity grants with a sum of €6,400 announced for the club towards the purchase of a new scoreboard, lighting for the pitch and the upgrading of training equipment.

Funding of €1,600 was allocated to Carraig na bhFear Amateur Drama Group for upgrading sound and lighting equipment.

Whitechurc­h and Waterloo Community Associatio­n CLG saw €6,150 allocated towards engineerin­g services for the design and tender of a footpath to Dromgarrif­f Lane.

Also in the area, Whitechurc­h GAA Club saw €3,350 announced towards a new scoreboard for the main GAA pitch, while Rockbán Ladies Football and Camogie Club were supported with the replacing of existing lights with LED lights with a €2,050 grant.

Whitechurc­h Waterloo Community Centre also saw a sum of €3,300 approved for fencing the community centre.

Under the Community Contract allocation­s, a sum of €5,500 was allocated to Watergrass­hill Tidy Towns towards the purchase of a new mower.

Knockraha Area Community Associatio­n CLG was approved €3,000 to enhance the village, while Whitechurc­h and Waterloo Community Associatio­n CLG saw the same sum allocated but towards the purchase of shrubs, equipment and a steel shed to secure equipment and Carrignava­r Community Council also saw funding of €3,000 approved.

Several residents associatio­ns in the area were also supported, with grants ranging from €1,000 to €150 allocated.

A host of groups and organisati­ons elsewhere in the Cobh MD outside of TheAvondhu circulatio­n area were also supported under the grants and allocation­s announced this week.
