The late Gerty Murphy, Tallow

- (Funeral arrangements by Aidan Walsh & Sons, Funeral Directors, Cappoquin and Tallow)

We record the sad and untimely passing of Gerty Murphy (nee Treacy), Kilmore Oaks, Tallow, Co. Waterford, loving daughter of the late Patty and Willie Treacy, peacefully, on Palm Sunday, 24th March, in the presence of her loving family and staff at CUH.

Lying in repose at Aidan Walsh & Sons Funeral Home in Tallow on Tuesday evening, funeral prayers were recited by Rosary committee member Mary Curley, followed by removal to the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Members of Tallow Tidy Towns, Tallow Point-to-Points and Lismore Golf Club, formed a guard of honour en route to the church.

On arrival, her remains were received and blessed by Rev. Fr G. McNamara P.P., who was assisted by Rev. Fr Pat Condon P.P.

On Wednesday morning, funeral Mass was celebrated by Fr McNamara, who was assisted by Rev. Fr Gerard Condon, Killavullen. Symbols representing Gerty’s life were presented to the altar by her brother Gerry Treacy (Tipperary GAA jersey), Nelius Mulcahy (race card), Marie O’Brien (cookery book), Siobhan Moroney (Tidy Towns cert and photo) and Nora O’Leary (golf club). The significance of these was narrated on by her sister-in-law, Catherine Treacy.

Readings during the Mass were recited by her sister-in-law Catherine Treacy and friend Marie Condon. Prayers of the faithful were read by Eoin Condon, Brian Murphy, Katie Dunican, Grace O’Brien, Pamela Brannigan and Andrew Treacy. A lovely selection of music and hymns was provided by soloist Sinead O’Neill and organist Mairead Cullinane throughout the Mass. The offertory gifts were presented to the altar by her sisters Nora Treacy and Catherine Dunican.

Following Communion, Laura Browne read a Communion reflection, followed by Gerty’s daughter Eve delivering a fitting eulogy, recalling fond memories of times shared together as a family, her interests and hobbies and her commitment to various committees she worked on in the community.

Afterwards, a cremation service took place privately.

May we extend our deepest sympathy to her loving husband John, daughter Eve, sisters Catherine (Kate) Dunican and Nora Treacy, brothers Billy and Gerry, brothersin-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, friends, neighbours and Gerty’s loyal dog, Max. May she rest in peace.
