Spring clean up time in Ballyduff
As TheA vondhu readers will have noted, several communities are conducting spring clean-ups. Mainly concentrated on 'litter picks', these are important initiatives when it comes to enhancing villages and towns.
On last Saturday morning, it was the turn of TidyTowns volunteers in Ballyduff Upper to don yellow jackets and go in pursuit of a vast variety of consumer waste. As with all such projects, suitable material isn't scarce and at regular intervals along the village's approach roads, full bags of rubbish, indicated the volunteers' success.
A positive outlook is essential to any TidyTowns volunteer, because, regardless of the various anti-litter campaigns, motorists continue to dispose of rubbish via their car windows. According to those we spoke to last Saturday, littering 'wasn't as bad' as previous years - that in itself is encouraging.
A suitcase was among the more unusual items collected - the main offenders being waste from fast food outlets, beverage cans and all manner of plastic.
SUPPORT FROM PAT
Veteran community activist, Pat Flynn, played his part by supplying litter pickers with water and refreshments on what was a glorious morning. Pat, who ran a very successful hardware business in Ballyduff for many years, is unwavering in his support of the various sporting and social groups in Ballyduff. Well done to Pat and all concerned.
