Sponsor sought for 'Town's busking festival

- MARIAN ROCHE

The Mitchelstown Busking Festival will go ahead this year on the August bank holiday weekend, meaning that even though INDIE isn’t in town this year, there’s going to be no shortage of 'ceol agus craic'.

The Mitchelstown Business Association made the announcement following a meeting on Wednesday last week and the plan is to hold the festival in New Market Square, alongside some family entertainment.

The MBA said all was under control, except a sponsor for the event. While an organisation has been approached, no confirmation was made at the time of going to print. Chair Claudia Matassa confirmed the amount required is just €1,500 as they’ve tried to keep the costs as low as possible, which will cover the prizemoney for the competition, advertising, first aid and a photographer.

Without a sponsor, Plan B is to run the event with a circa €50 donation from all businesses.

“We really cannot let this event slip by; it has been getting bigger and better each year, and a great opportunity for local young talent to be discovered. Look what it did for our previous winners The Fogues, Eamonn Walsh and even last year's winners 'Jamie & Micheal Music' and Shauna Maunsell.”

The Busking Festival is set to take place on the weekend of August 3rd and 4th, with more details to be announced in the near future.
