Ballysaggart gets behind Alison's campaign
There has been a brilliant response to a fundraising campaign for Alison O'Grady. On Sunday last, the village of Ballysaggart played its part by hosting a cake sale and auction. Meagher's Bar (The Ballyvera) was the setting for both events - the cake sale took place after Mass last Sunday and the auction later that evening.
There was a fine crowd at the cake sale, with locals supplying a substantial amount of home baking and other treats. Tea and coffee flowed freely and there was plenty of time to chat and catch up.
There was an even bigger gathering in Meagher's later that evening. Ian Hannon was the auctioneer and he did an excellent job, getting the best possible bids for a selection of goods that included signed jerseys, vouchers, gifts, timber and turf, etc. Music was provided by Ciaran O'Gorman.
Alison's parents, Michelle and Sean, were in attendance and they take this opportunity to thank the people of Ballysaggart and surrounding areas for their wonderful generosity. Indeed, the O'Gradys have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of goodwill and support that Alison's fundraising campaign has received.
A special word of thanks to Adrian and Dianne in The Ballyvera for putting in so much work and looking after everyone so well. Their well-run pub is the setting for a variety of social and cultural events in Ballysaggart and is very much the beating heart of this rural community.
