HOTEL: HOLIDAY INN LONDON – HEATHROW M4, JCT. 4

- Laura Gelder

THE HOTEL This new addition to Heathrow’s stock of value hotels opened its doors in October. The clue to its location is in the name but guests will need to take the complimentary shuttle (approx. every 20 minutes between 4.20am and midnight) or a cab to the terminal – 1,2 and 3 are ten minutes away.

THE CHECK- IN The first impression you get on arrival is space – certainly the most I’ve ever seen in a Holiday Inn. The vast lobby has ample desks and I didn’t have to wait long. The check-in was efficient and, seeing that I’m slightly flustered by my late arrival and hearing how early my wake-up call is, the staff member informs me where I can get food quickly and arranges for my morning taxi to the airport.

THE ROOM My spacious Executive Double room was decorated in calming neutral colours like grey, brown and olive, with splashes of turquoise. It was modern, but the winged leather arm chair and wooden

panelling makes it feel much less 'airport hotel' – which can only be a good thing. There was a desk, large flat screen TV on the wall, coffee machine and complimentary snacks. I was lucky enough to get a bowl of fresh fruit and bottle of chilled prosecco which can be requested for clients on booking. The bathroom felt less up-to-date than the bedroom but was clean and neat with a shower/bath and fluffy towels.

THE FACILITIES The hotel has three bars and restaurants, a fitness centre, parking and free wifi. Seasons Restaurant has a vast à la carte menu with British favourites ranging from burgers, steaks and fish & chips to Caesar salad, chicken curry and salmon supreme. The T6 bar is the star of the hotel. With tiled and wooden floors, exposed brick walls, eclectic furniture, warm lighting and sports on screens as well as a dedicated Gin Parlour and pizza and craft beers on the menu, you could be in Shoreditch. The Lounge Bar was busy and had a good atmosphere.

THE VERDICT It's not a particularly inspiring name but the hotel is convenient, surprisingly stylish in places and practical in all other areas. The staff were unfailingly helpful and it's a great pre- or post-flight hotel.
