Cork mourns late GAA historian Jim Cronin

CORK GAA is mourning the death of respected admininistrator and historian Jim Cronin.

After serving as a long time delegate to Cork County Board representing his native Millstreet for 30 years , Mr. Cronin served as county PRO in 1994 and vice-chairman between 1997 and ’99 before holding County Chairman from 2000-12.

Renowned as an outstanding GAA historian and archivist, he did much to preserve the history of Gaelic games within and outside the rebel county.

History became a labour of love for Jim Cronin, his endeavours came to fruition on the release in 1984 of followed by and He edited a production of “A Hundred Years of Redmonds” together with the early years of “The Nemo Rangers Story” to editing the special commemorative programme for the official opening of Pairc Ui Rinn.

On Cork claiming an unique All Ireland Senior Hurling and Football double in 1990 Jim Cronin initiated the concept of a book to celebrate the impending 100 All Ireland triumphs recorded by Cork.

The centenary updated edition of hit the shelves in 2001 while

was described as the GAA’s elemental place on Cork hosting European Culture capital in 2005 in a fascinating chronicle of 31 Cork people from the founding of the GAA up to the modern day.

Though residing in Bishopstown, the late Jim Cronin served as a delegate for Millstreet to the County Board for a long number of years before progressing to Executive level and officership in addition to becoming Chairman of the Croke Park Museum Advisory Commitee,
