Having a ball for Jamie and Alex

NOT only is it time to get the dancing shoes on equally so the ball gowns as the county mayor’s mid-summer charity ball which is in aid of three fundraiser­s will kick off next month.

The fundraiser is being held in aid of the Marymount Hospice, the Alex Ott Appeal and Friends of Jamie Wall.

The foyer of County Hall which is normally a hub of policy making and administra­tion will be transforme­d into a ballroom for the night with 550 people expected to attend on Saturday, June 13.

The event will be hosted by County Mayor, Cllr Alan Coleman and sponsored by The Kingsley and The Irish Examiner.

Speaking at the launch of the ball the County Mayor Cllr. Alan Coleman, said: “I am honoured to have the opportunit­y to host this prestigiou­s event at County Hall, and am keen that business, tourism and cultural representa­tives from around the County will come out in support of the night, which will greatly benefit the three very worthwhile beneficiar­ies.”

Alex Ott who lives in Meelin fell from his horse when out exercising six months ago and he sustained a serious spinal injury. He is presently at the National Rehabilita­tion Hospital and it is expected he will remain there for many months. Talented GAA man, Jamie Wall developed an abscess on his spine resulting in him being paralysed from the midriff down. . It is his aim to get out of his wheelchair and once again walk.
