SHUTTERBUGS BOYS

- SHEILA FITZGERALD

Explorers Adam Keane, Newmarket, and Jack O’Riordan, Cullen, have auditioned for the RTE Jnr Shutterbugs Programme.

TWO intrepid young Duhallow explorers have their magnifying glasses set on Shutterbugs, the RTE Jnr Show where children are challenged to find and photograph wild Irish animals in their natural environment.

Cousins Jack O’Riordan (6) from Cullen and Adam Keane (9) from Newmarket share bugfinding as their hobby! They regularly meet up and head out into their gardens or the woods where they search for butterflies, ladybirds, worms, and insects.

They have lots of reference books for checking statistics, and really enjoyed attending the recent Bugfinding Course at Millstreet Country Park.

One of Jack’s favourite programmes is Shutterbugs on RTE Jnr. Last year, he submitted an entry to the show but found that filming was finalised for 2014. However all was not lost - the producer took his details and recently invited Jack and Adam to audition for the forthcoming series of the programme.

The cousins quickly got their heads together and produced a video showcasing their knowledge. Producers complimented the boys on a fantastic production, and have promised to contact them as soon as a programme schedule is in place.

Meanwhile, their fascination with all things creepy crawly continues unabated with Adam sharing the fact that worms can grow up to 1cm per day, and Jack adding that an insect’s blood is yellow and that ants never sleep! “I guess they must party all night, Sheila,” he laughed.
