Do vote: Deputy Tom Barry
THERE are two decisions to be made by the Irish people in relation to changes to the Irish constitution.
One relates to the definition of marriage and the second relates to the age of eligibility to become President of Ireland.
Any change to the Irish constitution needs to be carefully considered, and well discussed in a fair and open manner so that people will form their own opinions without biased influence.
The Irish constitution is owned by the Irish people and has served us very well to date. However, as society evolves, changes and amendments are inevitable.
One aspect of this particular referendum which is regrettable is the lack of tolerance by some people towards the opinions of others.
Governments have a responsibility to put the questions before the people but I believe that the Referendum Commission should take control of distributing the information in a non-partisan way and each individual voter then decides regardless of their political affiliations.
While some of the interaction during this campaign has been unnecessarily aggressive; what is good to see is so many young people engaging in political debate and young people registering to vote and becoming engaged in the political process.
What I want to see on Friday is Irish voters coming out in large numbers and making informed, personal decisions.
