Minister visits St Mary’s and gets a tour of the facilities
EDUCATION Minister Jan O’Sullivan TD had a very pleasant one hour visit to St. Mary’s Secondary School last Thursday in the company of teachers and students.
Accompanied by her secretary, Minister Sean Sherlock T.D. and former Labour Cork County and Mallow Councillor Ronan Sheehan, she was officially welcomed by School Principal Yvonne Bane and Vice Prinicipal Una Griffin.
Wearing a green jacket over a colourful dress the Minister commenced her rounds by viewing a short play performed by the S.T.O.P. Young Social Innovators from Transition Year at the nearby Aemelian Theatre.
The Minister congratulated both the girls and their mentor and teacher Donna Lyons for their double award win in the recent National Finals held at Citiwest in Dublin.
The School Principal was guide as they continued on to the magnificent Sports Hall where other students were playing badminton.
It was very evident Minister O’Sullivan enjoyed a performance by 30 members of the St. Mary’s School Choir before chatting quietly in the peaceful surrounds of the Prayer Room with junior students.
Her last port of call was to the kitchen where a group of girls had refreshments with beautiful schoolmade buns and cakes laid out which Minister O’Sullivan and her entourage thoroughly enjoyed.
Before her departure she met with members of the schools An Taisce Neat Streets action group, students Katie Dinan and Deirdre Glynn and School office staff before travelling to Springfort Hall to attend a conference.
