At the heart of Duhallow
DROMAGH and Derinagree, along with neighbouring Rathcoole, are part of Dromtariffe parish which is situated at the heart of Duhallow. This is a buoyant area where the local Community has worked hard putting state of the art amenities and facilities in place in recent years.
The River Blackwater is a popular visiting place, and the backdrop of the nearby mountains makes this area a most pleasant part of North Cork.
Dromtariffe is home to two beautiful and well appointed churches - St. John’s in Dromagh, and the Church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Derinagree, with Fr. Liam Comer PP at the helm, assisted by the efficient Parish Council. The good quality agricultural land gives rise to a large farming community, while numerous local businesses continue to operate and grow in the parish.
Clubs and Organisations
There are several Clubs and Organisations active here and Sport is well represented with GAA, Badminton, Squash, Basketball, Golf, Soccer, and a Ladies Football Club. In addition, The Youth Club, and Parent and Toddler Group are active, and there are branches of Community Alert, the IFA, and the ICA group which was first established in 1951.
Dromtariffe GAA
Dromtariffe GAA centralises a large rural parish by providing Gaelic Football , Hurling, Ladies Football, and Juvenile GAA in their magnificent grounds located in Rathcoole. The Club is one of the oldest in Ireland with its foundation back in 1885
In 2000 the Ladies Football club was established, this caters for players from Dromtariffe , Millstreet & Cullen from U10 through to adult and the Ladies over the past 15 years have brought numerous County and divisional titles back to Rathcoole, including last year when they won the U21 C County and.County Division 3 league tiles.
During the 15 years numerous players have worn the county Jersey, and been members of All Ireland and Munster winning panels.
Dromtariffe hurling commenced in 2003 when our Juvenile club took on this new challenge. Success quickly came to the club when in 2005 the first U12 Duhallow hurling title was won. Again like the LGFA club, the hurling teams in Dromtariffe have won several Divisional and county titles including the 2014 U16CHL County. At Adult level 2014 was a hugely successful season with Duhallow Junior B league and Championship titles, the Singleton Cup, as well as County JBHC finalists losing out to Ballyclough.
Dromtariffe is traditionally known as a footballing club and again football is well provided for all age groups through the juvenile and adult clubs, recently the U21 footballers won the Duhallow U21BFC, and will play in the County U21 FC semi final on June 21st v Cill Na Matra.
Dromtarriffe Juvenile club caters for GAA needs from U6 to U16..
We are indebted to the hard work of the Juvenile Committee and team managements over the many years. The highlight of the Juvenile Calendar is the Annual Brian Cronin U10 football Tournament which runs this year on June 6th & June 13th. Again the Juvenile club has provided both divisional and county panels with many of our talented players.
Dromtariffe GAA has wonderful support from within the parish and beyond, and we wish to take this opportunity to thank our supporters both on and off the field, and for our club fundraising evening, club lotto and social events.
The next major fundraiser takes place on July 4th with a Golf Classic at Kanturk Golf Club .The annual Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camp will run from July 13th - 17th.. GAA news and events can be found at Websitewww.dromtarriffe.gaa.ie or Club Facebook / Twitter accounts.
