Plenty going on in local community
Dromtariffe Parish Hall
The Parish Hall is a vital hub for the local Community - hosting classes, activities, and events throughout the year. There’s something for everyone here - basketball, athletics, soccer, yoga, badminton, social dancing, set dancing, and netafit to name but a few.
The Hall is also used by the Youth Club, Toddler and Baby Group, and the Senior Citizens, and is the venue for several Concerts at key times of the year.
The hugely popular historical walks were a real success last summer and plans are afoot for more of the same this year. The Hall Committee advise that the building is open to everyone and everyone can use it.
Derinagree National School
A 7 week swimming course kicked off the school year and November saw the commencement of a crochet and sewing project provided by Members of the Dromtariffe Active retirement group. The children were first introduced to sewing in buttons. In no time, there was a variety of professionally produced Christmas decorations on show! Many thanks to all the ladies who shared their time and their amazing skills with the children.
Derinagree School has just been awarded it’s 2nd Green Flag for commitment to using renewable energy and caring for the environment. Pupils built Solar Ovens, made Draught Excluders, conducted numerous science experiments, researched food waste and planted silver birch and willow trees in the front garden.
One of the highlights of the year was the St. Patrick’s Day Parish Concert! This year the entire school performed a superb musical called ‘Superkids Save the Planet’
Many thanks to all the parents for their help with outfits, practices, photographs etc.
Our Quiz teams participated numerous quizzes, the Kanturk Credit Union quiz being the highlight.

Dromagh National School
Dromagh National School has also enjoyed a great year, with the boys winning the 8-a side Rural Schools Football Final and the girls team winning the 7-a side final. In addition the hurling team won the 7-a side competition in 2013, and also reached the final last year. Congratulations to both the girls and boys teams who have both succeeded in reaching the Rural Schools final again this year.
Participating in Cork City Sports is an annual event with the children achieving regular success. In 2013 staff and pupils were delighted to have a county champion in the U-10s boys race. Well done also to the boys’ relay team, who were successful in 2013 and 2014.
Children also regularly enter Scór and Scóraíocht competitions and had great success this year in singing, dancing, and music.
The children frequently enter quizzes, achieving first place on a regular basis. This year, the quiz team won the Kanturk Credit Union Quiz, Boherbue Quiz, Dromtariffe GAA Quiz, and also reached the National Final of the Credit Union Quiz in the recent past.

Sandpit House
The Sandpit House continues to be a hive of activity, and the venue of choice for numerous events like parties and other special occasions. On the first Tuesday of every month, the Pub resounds to the best of traditional music and song, and just recently played host to the IRD Duhallow Bealtaine Festival traditional Irish night.
Just last week, residents of Cope in Kanturk and Mallow enjoyed an evening of music and dancing, and were presented with a cheque by the Lane family, proceeds from a fundraising 45 drive recently organised by Eimear and John Joe.
