Heartbreak for impressive Éire Óg hulers

-

pointed a free for Éire Óg to tie the scores. A minute later Cathal Murphy regained the lead for his side when he billowed the Ballygarvan net and a Dan McCarthy point from a free closed the first half scoring. The score at the interval consequently read 1-6 to 1-4 in Éire Óg’s favour so the result was very much in the balance.

Ballygarvan struck a purple patch when the action resumed with a Stephen White point being followed by two from Dan McCarthy. Staying on the offensive the south-east side enhanced their prospects of victory when McCarthy capitalised on the failure of the Éire Óg defence to clear the sliotar from the dandanger zone. He slotted home his own and his teteam’s second mmajor. Ballygarvan were now very much in the driver’s seat but Éire Óg’s spirits were lifted wwhen Eoin OO’Shea secured thetheir second goal in the 39th minute. The same player followed wwith a point from a free so the sides were on level terms with twenty minutes of action remaining. Ballygarvan subsequently enjoyed a slight degree of dominance and they were two points ahead with five minutes remaining, but Éire Óg scored three in as many minutes.

Eoin O’Shea, Cathal Murphy and Michael O’Shea were all on target so they appeared to be ahead at the right time. Ballygarvan had other ideas however and a determined drive goalwards by Gary White ended with him sending the sliotar between the uprights and scorer-in-chief Dan McCarthy secured the winning point in the time added on period.

Stephen White and Dan McCarthy were outstanding figures in Ballygarvan’s victory while those who impressed for Eire Og were excellent young goalkeeper Dylan Desmond, Eoin O’Shea and Cathal Murphy.
