Emmets face up to Aghada in U21 quarter
ROBERT Emmets face up to Aghada in a quarter-final of the County U-21 ‘A’ FC at Coachford on Saturday evening.
Adding a new name to the roll of honour, the Newmarket and Lismire combination impressed enroute towards landing divisional spoils., a competent and physically stronger side bettering Boherbue in the decider.
On that occasion, Emmets .controlled the key departments, Jamie Hayes, Gavin Forde, Paudie Allen and Aidan Browne starring in a resolute defence with Alan Ryan and Jonathan Flaherty willing workers at midfield in addition to excellent scores from Daniel Culloty and Barry O’Connor.
The prize is entry into the county and a clash against Aghada, who retained their East Cork crown at the expense of Glanmire. Last season, Aghada easily accounted for Kanturk and it illustrates the calibre of a formidable side.
Only a high pitch showing will be good enough for Emmets if they harbour hopes of advancing to a semi final against Nemo Rangers.
From the County JBHC, Lismire encounter Laochra Óg in Banteer on this Thursday evening. Last season, Lismire bettered Carbery Rangers in round 1, only to falter to Iveleary. A lack of competitive games and exams may limit Lismire against the Muskerry side that formed last season.
St. John’s and Glenlara return to duty in the County JBFC in an eventful campaign to date for both sides. St. Johns faltered to Glenlara in a preliminary first round, won against Gleann na Laoi but disappointed against Rathpeacon in the first round proper. They have a chance to redeem themselves in a clash against Ballypheane in round 2 in Donoughmore on Friday evening.
Likewise Glenlara can make strides, the win over St. Johns, offset by a loss to Kilbrittain as they shape up to Shanballymore in Ballyclough on Saturday.
