Murphy’s unveils new catering service

-

A NEW external catering service for events and celebrations has been launched by Murphy’s Gala in Drumcummer, Kanturk.

Recent investment of approximately €20,000 in a new state-of-the-art kitchen has enabled the store to expand its offering and Murphy’s Gala is now fully equipped to cater for events such as communions, confirmations, birthdays and business lunches.

Launched with an evening event that showcased the wide range of hot and cold catering options, including gourmet treats from the in-store bakery ‘Baker’s Corner’ range, local customers and businesses in the area were invited to come and sample a variety of dishes at Murphy’s.

“Our launch evening was a phenomenal success and we were thrilled to receive such a positive response to our service, securing multiple bookings on the evening,” Store owner Irene Murphy said.

“There’s a real demand for this service in the local area and by offering quality food options at great prices, we’re confident that this extension to our existing businesses will do extremely well.

The event was a double celebration. As well as launching the new catering service, Murphy’s Gala was presented with a ‘Best in Bakery’ award from Gala Retail Services. The award recognises the in-store bakery at Murphy’s Gala as the best across all Gala stores in Ireland.

“Since launching our bakery offering three years ago we have been producing a wide selection of artisan breads, including spelt bread and Avena Oat Bread, as well as a variety of cakes and pastries that are baked fresh every morning in our in-store baker,” said Irene. “Our baked goods have been a big success with our customers and it’s their feedback that really spurred us on to expand our services.

“In addition, the launch of our new catering service has enabled us to create two new roles – in our deli and bakery – and we’re hoping that this is just the start of things to come.”

Murphy’s Gala is situated on the main Mallow to Killarney Road just before Banteer and the store employs a total of 11 staff.

“It’s great to see stores like Murphy’s branching out and identifying new services that will serve the community,” said Gary Desmond, CEO of Gala Retail Services. “The external catering service is a great way to not only cater for customer events and meetings, but to promote the store and what it has to offer from its deli counter and Baker’s Corner.

“For Murphy’s Gala to be awarded ‘Best in Bakery’ demonstrates the quality of the store’s products and service.

“We wish Irene, Jeremy and the team every success with this new venture, and are confident that it will become hugely popular with the local community.”

Murphy’s Gala is open seven days a week, from 6.30am – 10pm Monday to Friday, 7.30am – 10pm on Saturdays and 8am – 10pm on Sundays.
