ROAD SAFETY
We hear so much about Road Safety–a subject that should near and dear to everyone’s heart, I wonder is it? As someone who has travelled many thousands of miles over the years and during that time seen the many changes in people’s attitude, there are a couple of observations that I can’t help making.
One of the latest “cool practices” is some pedestrians and cyclist with plugs in both ears listening to their favourite tunes as they go along and more than likely their mind is “a thousand miles away”. This should be banned. It is dangerous in any way you spell it–they simply can’t hear vehicles or what goes on around them, when one step outside their own driveway whether walking, jogging, running, cycling or on horseback, they all have the same responsibility as anybody who turns the key in the ignition of any motorised vehicle from the Honda 50 to the Scania 164. People should remember and practice that.
No.2 is smoking while driving. This practice is one of the most dangerous–eyes off the road while you light up, eyes off the road six or seven times while you tip your ashes and–God forbid in the event of an accident the word Fire immediately springs to mind. This should be Banned for both driver and passenger. “Think about it”
