Duhallow music awards night

DUHALLOW is regarded as a catchment region which is rich in music. With this in mind, a husband and wife duo who are involved in the music industry believe that the time is right to hold a recording awards night - which will be held in Millstreet. next week

Leo and Noreen Fitzgerald of Music Row Studios told The Corkman that the awards will be presented to a variety of singers and song writers as well as a host of musicians who have contribute­d towards the music industry in the region.

“These artists have become very successful and popular with their music and songs which are being played on the radio as well as venues all over the country and abroad. It is important that they are recognised for their contributi­on to the music industry,” said Noreen.

Among the award recipients will be Jo Guerin from Ballydaly , who is set to receive an award for best singer/song writer.

Newmarket’s Mick Corbett, known as ‘ The Wanted Man’, is receiving an award for ‘ the for most requested song’.

Noel O’Leary, Mairead Begane and Barry Condron of Millstreet and Macroom will receive an award for ‘ best original single’.

And these are but a taster of the night ahead. According to Noreen, there will be 23 awards on the night where the bulk of the winners stemming from the North Cork and Kerry border.

On the night there will also be a seven piece live band and some of the winners will join and perform in between the award ceremony.

Some of the artists performing will include Jo Guerin, Laura Dunlea, Ballydesmo­nd, Mick Corbett aka, ‘ The Wanted Man,’ as well as Mike Fitzgerald and Helen Scollard as Southern Pride.

In addition, Laura Dunlea, Kevin Lynch and Breda and Marie Moynihan - who are better known as ‘ The Diamond Sisters’ - will also perform.

There will also be some comedy from ‘ The Bachelors In Trouble’.

After the awards ceremony on September 18 at the Wallis Arms in Millstreet, there will be dancing to ‘Country Roads.’

The awards will start at 8pm sharp and doors will be open at 7.30pm. Admission is €10.
