Local organisations get behind Ian and Eimear’s odyessy to Italy
KANTURK Credit Union is delighted to support Coláiste Treasa students Ian O’Sullivan and Eimear Murphy and their teacher Mr. Derry O’Donovan in the upcoming 27th European Union Young Scientist competition.
Ian, Eimear and Mr. O’Donovan will travel to Milan in Italy this month to represent Ireland.
Ian O’Sullivan and Eimear Murphy from Coláiste Treasa won the 51st BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition earlier this year for their project on teenagers’ alcohol consumption. Their entry was from the Social & Behavioural category and their topic was ‘Alcohol consumption: Does the apple fall far from the tree?’
Marketing and Development Officer at Kanturk Credit Union, Lorcán McLoughlin said: “As a past pupil of Coláiste Treasa, it was great to see students from the school participating in and winning the BT Young Scientist competition.
“For the students themselves, their teacher Mr. O’Donovan and everyone from Coláiste Treasa who contributed to the success, it was a great achievement

to win such a prestigious competition and to represent Ireland in the European Union Young Scientist competition will be a huge honour”.
The project was the school’s only entry in this year’s event and has been by far the biggest accolade earned to date by any students of Coláiste Treasa in the BT Young Scientist competition, which has seen some category prizes and commendations brought home over the years before now
