Local organisati­ons get behind Ian and Eimear’s odyessy to Italy

KANTURK Credit Union is delighted to support Coláiste Treasa students Ian O’Sullivan and Eimear Murphy and their teacher Mr. Derry O’Donovan in the upcoming 27th European Union Young Scientist competitio­n.

Ian, Eimear and Mr. O’Donovan will travel to Milan in Italy this month to represent Ireland.

Ian O’Sullivan and Eimear Murphy from Coláiste Treasa won the 51st BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition earlier this year for their project on teenagers’ alcohol consumptio­n. Their entry was from the Social & Behavioura­l category and their topic was ‘Alcohol consumptio­n: Does the apple fall far from the tree?’

Marketing and Developmen­t Officer at Kanturk Credit Union, Lorcán McLoughlin said: “As a past pupil of Coláiste Treasa, it was great to see students from the school participat­ing in and winning the BT Young Scientist competitio­n.

to win such a prestigiou­s competitio­n and to represent Ireland in the European Union Young Scientist competitio­n will be a huge honour”.

The project was the school’s only entry in this year’s event and has been by far the biggest accolade earned to date by any students of Coláiste Treasa in the BT Young Scientist competitio­n, which has seen some category prizes and commendati­ons brought home over the years before now
