Golfer Brendan is the Boss after hole-in-one

- BILL BROWNE

THE 11th hole at Fermoy Golf Club proved to be a happy hunting ground for one lucky golfer who aced the hole – winning a luxury precision Hugo Boss watch.

Brendan Keane managed to do what most golfers who have played the game for years have not – and on the balance of probabilities never will.

It the process Brendan has shown that contrary to the old adage lighting can strike twice.

The 59-year-old, who plays off a 20 handicap, achieved the holiest of holy golf grails when he holed out the perfect tee-shot at the tricky 170-yards par three while playing in a club three-ball competition last month.

Ironically, it was the second time that Brendan who has been a member of Fermoy Golf Club sine 1992, has scored a hole-in-one at Fermoy having aced the 8th hole some 10-years ago.

“I had been working in the US for a while so this was actually my first game of golf in about seven weeks,” said Brendan who is an active committee member at Fermoy Golf Club.

“The 11th hole can be tricky as there is a lot of gorse to hit over and no real fairway between the tee-box and the green so you need to hit the ball well and accurately,” Brendan said.

That is exactly what he did, striking a majestic rescue wood that landed in front of the pin, was placed in the heart of the green, before rolling up to the hole.

“The lads said to me it was going to be close and it was only when we walked up to the green that we realised the ball was resting against the pin. I was very careful to make sure that I took that flag out very careful so the ball did not pop out,” he laughed.

“Not only did I get a hole-in-one, I also got to hear the satisfying noise of the ball hitting the bottom of the cup. I have to say a big thank you to the course staff for putting the hole in the right position,” he grinned.

Stephen Brydon, spokesman for Boss Watches, congratulated Brendan for achieving what he said was “one of golf ’s most elusive feats.”

“For amateur golfers, a hole-in-one is as memorable as winning The Masters would be to a professional. We want to ensure they have something tangible by which to remember the day, other than an expensive bar bill,” he said.

“This exclusive timepiece immortalises what for many is a very rare feat and serves as a memento of their achievement,” he added.
