PLANS FOR A MAGICAL CHRISTMAS IN MALLOW MORE LIGHTS, FREE PARKING AND CHRISTMAS FAIR TO BOOST THE TOWN
WITH just six-weeks to go to Christmas Mallow is gearing up to mark the Yuletide season in style with the local community urged to do their bit to make December a ‘merry month in Mallow’.
The festive frivolities will kick off on Friday, November 27 when the official switching on of the town impressive Christmas lights.
Over the past two years Cork County Council and Mallow Chamber have between them invested €60,000 on new lights for the town, with the town plaza being the focal point for the impressive new display.
This year a further €16,000 will be spent on the lights, which will extend from the plaza up to the town hall and onto O’Brien Street.
Chamber president Kevin O’Keeffe said the plan was to roll out the lights to the rest of the town over the coming years.
“There is no doubt but that the new lighting rejuvenated Mallow last Christmas and this year’s extension should spread that good feeling even further,” said Mr O’Keeffe.
On Saturday, December 12 the beautiful surroundings of Mallow Castle will be transformed into a Winter Wonderland for a ‘Cracking Christmas Fair’.
Organised by the Mallow Development partnership, the free event will run from 1pm-5pm and will feature a plethora of attractions including gift stalls, kiddies entertainment, a live crib festive food and drink and seasonal music.
Meanwhile, Cork County Council has announced that shoppers will be able to avail of free parking in their four Mallow car-parks from December 5 to January 2. The existing onstreet parking arrangements, which include 30-minutes free parking during the day, will remain in place for the festive season.
Mr O’Keefe said Mallow Chamber is urging local businesses to enter into the seasonal spirit by decorating their premises, with the best most colourfully themed winning free Chamber membership for 2016.
“Each year, huge effort goes into creating stunning Christmas windows that really make an immense difference to the town,” he said.
“It really is a critical time of the years for businesses and we hope that the new lights, the free parking and the other events going on around Mallow will add to the colour, atmosphere and experience of visiting Mallow and result in a bumper season for the town,” said Mr O’Keeffe.
