Chat flows at Meelin tea party
The American Tea Party which is one of the key social occasions in Meelin was once again a resounding success.
As with other years, many people rolled up their sleeves and hosted tables and invited guests, not just from Meelin but people from throughout Duhallow and further afield made their way to the community centre to once again help raise funds for the upkeep of the centre.
The cold plate provided by Hannon’s in Newmarket went down a treat, and the various hosts provided a selection of mouth watering desserts and some fine beverages to add to the spirit of the occasion.
Local lady Eleanor Burke who has recently retired from the Hall Committee was honoured on the night by her fellow committee members and indeed the wider Meelin community, for her outstanding contribution to numerous local endeavours over the past three decades.
Nora Shine told The Corkman how Eleanor was a key member of the Hall Committee; “Eleanor was a brilliant worker on the Hall Committee since 1980” Nora said, “she was really helpful as well when we needed to apply for grant aid for various projects, she had the expertise we needed” Nora added.
In addition, Eleanor was involved in setting up the Anchor Playschool in the village, and was also a member of the Carnival Committee. Eleanor Sheahan presented her with a cut glass Vase, a bouquet of flowers was presented by Nora Shine, and she received a customised Card from Mary Sheahan.
“The people of Meelin are really grateful to Eleanor for all her help over the years” Ted Linehan of the Hall Committee added.
