On entering or leaving Kanturk, you will no doubt pass ‘ The Grind’. Located on the roundabout at O’Brien St for the past nine years, The Daily Grind has evolved from a deli to a modern style coffee house where baristas create coffees to delight the senses.
The Daily Grind has evolved into a fabulous Coffee House
Owners Brendan and Patricia Moylan started the original business literally across the road over nine years ago when they sensed the need for quality food and beverages on the go.
However, over a period of time, the need to grow the business and provide a more relaxing environment for their customers meant that a change was necessary - and just over a year ago The Daily Grind Coffee House was born. “It was an obvious change for us to make, but given the economic climate at the time it was one which we did not take lightly, the fact that we were staying on the street was a huge deal which made the transition much easier for us.
There is a great vibe amongst the other businesses on this side of town who all complement each other well” proprietor Patricia Moylan said.
Cosmopolitan yet relaxed country ambience
When you first enter the Daily Grind, apart from the aromas of coffee and great food the first thing you will notice is an almost cosmopolitan yet relaxed country feel as evidenced by the variety of customers who frequent the coffee house.
“At any one time we could have everyone from passing cyclists, students, shoppers, business people, parents, and tourists all sitting down and enjoying a quick bite and a coffee or tea, much of our trade still revolves around the “to go” business which adds to the hustle and bustle around here” Patricia said.
Coffee is King here
Make no mistake about it but coffee is king here, espresso is more than just an item on the menu it’s a way of life and hidden amongst local artworks here one will find murals of coffee plants expertly hand painted which reflect every hand crafted coffee that arrives to the customer. Whether it’s an Americano or Latte, the product has to be perfect. Of course, coffee isn’t the only beverage to be found here, traditional tea is right up there on the menu as well.
