Finn delight at latest win

- BY DIARMUID SHEEHAN

CHARLEVILLE trainer Peter Finn was delighted that his charges ended their season on another high in Ballyhea last weekend, a win he felt was well deserved.

“It is another great day and another great win for this bunch of young hurlers. They deserve everything they get” said Finn, who is in his second year with Charleville’s golden generation. The Limerick man felt that the win league title win was important on several levels.

“A final is a final and they are there to win and thankfully we won this one today. Mallow were always going to be tough opposition for us as they are a very competitive premier side so for us this was a good chance to see where we are at.

“Of course we have played teams at that grade before in the league but we have targeted this game for quite a while now and it is great to get the win.

“It is important for us to set down a marker for next year. It is going to be tough but we have shown that we are able for it. We are going to give it everything we have and this bunch of players have what it takes.

“Of course every game will be like a final next year but that is why you play this game, to play in the really big games.”

Finn, a former Limerick minor hurling coach is looking forward to the break however he is only too aware that the break won’t be for long.

“It has been a long season but a great one. We will take a break now but we will be back at it again in the middle of January which won’t be long coming. The lads deserve a break now and we will get back at it in the New Year with the huge challenge of the PIHC to look forward to.

Charleville have shown all through the year that they were the outstanding side in the intermediate grade and next season they will be keen to make it two promotions in a row and play hurling at the county’s top table, a grade they look well capable of handling.
