Peters far too strong for Bantry

-

explosive attack that combined to shoot five goals with a hat trick netted by Cathy Forrest and a pair for Caitriona Stack.

Credit Bantry, going great guns in Junior A ranks and their second string outfit gave it their all in a game of fantastic endeavour played in perfect conditions. Straight from the off, St. Peters brought intensity to the proceedings from a goal netted by Forrest followed by points to Kelly Mulcahy, Rachel Carroll before Stack rose a green flag.

Bantry came more into the picture and availed of the encouraging play from Alice O’Shaughnessy, Lucy Coakley and the enterprising Rachel Murphy to get back into the contest. And their efforts were rewarded on a goal from Murphy to ignite their charge.

However St. Peters regained a handle on the proceedings, full forward Forrest netted for her side to forge ahead 3-5 to 1-6 at the break. The initiative remained with the Rockchapel side upon the restart, team captain Mairín Stack, a steady influence in defence with Breeda Lane and Katie Mulcahy on top at midfield.

Elsewhere, 15 year Kelly Mulcahy emerged a revelation in attack as were Catriona Stack and Forrest on adding to their goal tally. A battling Bantry never gave up, scores to Rachel and Eve Murphy raised faint hopes of a comeback.

However, St. Peters never lost their sense of direction, a competent defence soaked up pressure before closing out the game from points to Carroll, Stack and Mulcahy to seal an impressive triumph.
