DROMTARRIFFE GAA

JBHC INTER DIVISIONAL FINAL: It was a case of so near and yet so far as our Junior hurlers just fell short at the final whistle of claiming county honours. As the lights were turned on in an overcast Pairc Ui Rinn , heavy underfoot conditions welcomed the teams after a week of heavy rain & the 4th match hosted by the venue over 3 days.

Sean Howard opened the scoring in the second minute from play, though over the opening 8 minutes St Finbarrs were guilty of recording four wides before they opened their account from a free.

The hard work around midfield from Daniel O Keeffe, Darren O Connor and Kevin Cremin, led to the second Dromtarriffe score in the 11th minute through a well taken O Keeffe strike, cancelled out 3 minutes later by St Finbarrs.

Defensively, Denis O Donoghue, Jack Murphy , & Cremin were working hard, ably assisted by the Dromtarriffe midfield, and the side was grateful when Keeper Dermot pulled off a great first half save.

The next six minutes Dromtarriffe extended their lead through a brace of converted frees from Howard and a second O Keeffe point from play, and when St Finbarrs added their 3rd match point, Mark O Connor quickly cancelled to maintain the 3 point lead going into the last 5 minutes of the first half. St Finbarrs however brought the match to parity approaching the half time whistle, but the last action fell to O Keeffe who’s long range shot found the back of the Finbarrs net giving Dromtarriffe a 1-6 to 0-6.

Second half commenced as the city side piled on the pressure which resulted in an early equalising goal. Dromtarriffe continued to work hard, but chances became fewer, In the 8th & 10th minutes through a 65 & point from play, St Finbarrs took their first time lead, and as it transpired,

Dromtarriffe never managed to find parity. Points for Howard and Jack Murphy were split by a Finbarrs point, but as Dromtarriffe tried to find that extra gear their cause took a blow through a players immediate dismissal for an off the ball incident.

Closing out the last 14 minutes, the club side (and with many players showing tiredness from the heavy underfoot conditions) battled hard, but alas as the minutes ticked down resulting chances eluded the club side from getting that desperately needed equalising point.

Team & Scorers: D Cremin, D O Donoghue, M O Brien, D Dennehy, M O Gorman, J Murphy (0-1), C Cremin, K Cremin, D O Keeffe (1-2), D O Connor , D Mullane, N O Riordan , S Howard (0-5), O Dennehy & M O Connor (0-1).

UNDER 21’S: Congrats to our club players who earned a respectable draw with Blackrock in the County U21 HC final.
