Maureen’s and The Bridge House make darts cup finals

LAST Friday week saw the first of the cup semi-finals.

Mollys hosted The Bridge House with the first game of the night between Timmy O’Sullivan and Owen Doyle. There were high scores from both players but O’Sullivan was best on the doubles to take the point 3-1.

The second pair up were Donal Cullinane and Nicky Sherman. Sherman threw some fine with finishes of 72 and 116 and winning the game 3-1.

Stephen Connelly and Michael O’Rourke were next into oice action with O’Rourke in top form scoring well but Connelly had the victory by 3-2.

The fourth game had Valdi Ghajda and Darren Jones in battle. Both players were tightly knit with Ghaida throwing some high scores and Jones taking out three high checkouts of 121, 105 and 125 and taking out the game to win 3-2.

Last of the singles matches was Peter Heslin up against Alan Foley. Both players were tit for tat with high scores however it was Heslin that took the game 3-1.

As it stood after the singles it was 3-2 in the favour of Mollys Bar.

Next up was the doubles, first game was Barry Healy and Asha Ghajda against David O’Brien and Richard Willis. It was the close pairing and high scoring Bridge House players that won the game 3-0.

In the second game of doubles saw Heslin and Connelly playing Sherman and Foley. Super darts were thrown in this game with 140s matched with 100s and a checkout of 124 from Heslin. It was the strong pairing of Molly’s that took the last game 3-2.

Final score on the night 4-3 to Mollys.

Last Monday week Monas and Maureens battled out in the other Cup semi-final.

First up were Tommy Kavanagh against Ken Lomasney. Lomasney, a new signing for Maureen’s team showed what he is made of with some great high scores and beat the Dubliner 3-0.

Alan Flynn and Danny Butler performed in the second game with both players on the Moriartys team together a few years back but now each other going head to head against each other. Butler threw some fantastic high scores but Flynn kept on the pressure and pipped the post to win 3-2.

The Denis Curtis and Peter O’Donovan affair was tit for tat with great darts and high scores being thrown but it was Curtis with finishes of 62 and 91 that took the game 3-2. In the fourth singles Johnny Holland played John Leonard with both players well able to hit the high scores but Leonard was able to hit the finishing doubles to take the game 3-0. Last game of the singles was John Sheehan and Pat Leahy. Once again both players hitting high scores but it was Leahy with a finish of 90 that took the game 3-0. As it stood after the singles it was 3-2 in the favour of Maureen’s. First game of doubles was Curtis and Barry Whelan against Lomasney and Klaus Richter. Both pairings were hitting high scores and it was tit for tat between them but it was the Maureen’s pair that came out on top winning 3-2. The last doubles game had Holland and Liam Farrell facing Noel Dinan and Leonard. Holland threw in a few 100+ but was answered by Dinan and Leonard who won the final encounter 3-0. Final score: 5-2 to Maureens. On the same night night Marakibo and Horgans fought it out in the Plate semi-final with Jason Carey and Noel Holmes first into tungsten action.

Carey threw some great darts and even though behind came back to win 3-1.

David O’Callaghan and Chris Holmes played the second game with Holmes throwing a ten dart leg hitting a 180 but O’Callaghan came back fighting and hitting some high scores and came out of the game with a win of 3-1.

Next up were Ciara Haugh and Patrick Holmes. Both players having played with Cork County darts in their perspectiv­e sections last year now found themselves going head to head against one another. The game was tit for tat among the players and going 2-2 and coming down to the last leg between them.

Haugh was on a finish but narrowly missing the double and Holmes took out his double to win 3-2.

In the fourth game Jo Jo Noonan and Aaron Ryan battled it out.. Noonan was unlucky not to hit the finishing doubles in legs and Ryan as cool as ice took the game 3-0.

In the last of the singles it was Damien Carey and Adrian Holmes. Carey was unlucky with finishing doubles legs and Holmes throwing a few high scores took the win 3-1.

After the singles it was Horgans that were leading 3-2 going into the doubles. First of the doubles was O’Callaghan and Carey against Daithi Linehan and Chris Holmes. Carey really showed what he is made of in this game with some great darts being thrown by him and it was the Marakibo pairing that took the win 3-0.

Last doubles saw Payrick Haugh and Tony Carroll challenge Ryan and Michael Dunlea. With Haugh coming out of retirement in darts and Carroll not having thrown a dart since last season it was going to be a tough one for them against the strong pairing for Horgans with Dunlea throwing in some high scores and it was Horgans that took the win 3-0.

Final score of the night 4-3 to Horgans.

Meanwhile, last weekend in the Cup semi-finals return legs Maureen’s were hosts to Mona’s while the Bridge House entertaine­d Molly’s.

Maureen’s were 5-2 ahead of Mona’s from the first leg and commanded success in O’Brien Street reaching the Cup final in a final score of 10-4.

Both Alan Flynn and Tommy Kavanagh secured the only two points for Mona’s in singles competitio­n while but Mick Holmes, Klaus Richter and Peter O’Donovan took the Maureen points in their singles while Holmes and Paul Noonan and Leahy and Sean Dilworth secured a final place for the O’Brien Street pub.

The Bridge House V Molly’s clash was a closer encounter of the tungsten kind after a 4-3 lead for Molly’s in the first leg.

For the Bridge House Alan Foley and Richard Willis won points for the Mallow bar in the singles while Barry Healy, Peter Heslin and Stephen Connelly were winners for the Bweeng bar but the doubles pairing of Owen Doyle and Chris Curran and Alan Foley and Michael O’Rourke for the Bridge House forced a paly off after a 7-7 scoreline.

Foley won the first play off game while Connelly took the second to make it 8-8 and it was down to the final decider in which Sherman won to give the Bridge House a placing in the Cup final.

In the semi-final Plate return game Horgans whitewashe­d Marakibo 7-0 to give them a final 11-4 win.
