Cllr Timmy Collins isn’t afraid of a few dogs barking on phone

- MARIA HERLIHY

THE high pitched barking of dogs was the unusual ringtone attached to Cllr Timmy Collins (Ind) phone when it began to jingle loudly at the Kanturk Mallow municipal district meeting on Friday.

A few giggles were had, as the Meelin native quickly reached into his pocket to retrieve his phone at 10.45am to quell the yapping. The growling and barking led to Cllr John Paul O’Shea (Ind) to quip that “Timmy’s dogs were on the loose. All we’re waiting for now is the song, ‘Who let the dogs out.”

As quick as a flash, Cllr Bernard Moynihan (FF) smiled and said it wouldn’t be the first time that Cllr Collins has had dogs unleashed on him.

Indeed Cllr Collins has come up close and personal with canines as when he was out canvassing in the 2011 local elections in Dromagh, he had to make a quick escape when he went to a house looking for their number one vote, and instead had to turn into Mo Farah and bolt it when two Rottweilers took a liking to him. Cllr Collins was at the time bitten on both hands and required a tetanus shot but thankfully not stitches.

When it was put to him by The Corkman that considering he was previously mauled by dogs the experience hadn’t put him off with his ring tone.

“Well it was my grand daughter April Noonan who put the dogs barking on the phone for me.” he said.

“You know I didn’t even think of the time about the Rottweilers until you phoned me. And before the dogs barking I had cocks crowing so at least I’m keeping animal farm going,” laughed Cllr Collins who lives in Meelin, the highest village in Ireland
