Dun an Oir estate in Kanturk to be ‘tackled’ and dealt with

- MARIA HERLIHY

THE Dun An Oir estate in Kanturk which has caused more than one headache for residents is now set to be “sorted out and completed” by August.

At the Kanturk-Mallow municipal district meeting, which was held for the first time at the Edel Quinn Hall, Estates Manger John Aherne had good news for councillors as he has pursed the bondholders of the estate.

He said he has held a number of meetings with Allied Irish Bank along with the receiver who will work together to complete the estate. A snag list must be completed on a number of houses and sewerage needs to be addressed along with roads and street lighting.

Mr Aherne said he has held meetings with AIB offiicals and the receiver regarding releasing the bond for the unfinished houses where some of the homes have such serious faults and cracks, they too will have the same fate as Lios Na Greine, which is in the process of being demolished.

Mr Aherne said AIB and the receiver are now “working firmly together and not fighting” and have agreed to fund a site resolution plan (SRP). It has also agreed to put in a pedestrian crossing at the main road, which was part of the original planning application.

At the meeting, huge praise was levelled at Mr Aherne. Councillors outlined that he had pumped a huge amount of man hours into discussions along with meeting residents and all stakeholders involved.
