Dromina enjoy facile win over Buttevant

Buttevant had a couple of wides in the opening minutes with Dromina finding their range and by the 10th minute they were 0-3 ahead. Chris O’Toole opened Buttevant’s account in the 11th minute. Good play by Richard Morrissey led to a Paddy Hassett point for Dromina. Two pointed frees by Diarmuid Buckley were followed by a goal from a penalty by the same player after 19 minutes.

Outstandin­g goalkeeper Kevin O’Callaghan pointed a long range free and the winners were 1-7 to 0-1 clear. Diarmuid Buckley and Pat Hayes added points before Kevin O’Keeffe had Buttevant’s 2nd score a long range point in the 24th minute. O’Keeffe had now moved to midfield with Darren Healy going to full forward. Good play for the winners by Paddy Burke produced a fine Ger Hayes point. In the dying moments Kevin O’Keeffe had Buttevant’s 3rd point when he sent over from a free 1-10 to 0-3 at the break.

Two Diarmuid Buckley pointed frees on the resumption were followed by another Kevin O’Keeffe pointed free. In the 36th minute Diarmuid Buckley goaled. Good play by Paddy Hassett, Diarmuid Buckley and Declan Carroll led to another point by Hassett from a tight angle. Buttevant had a few points by O’Keeffe and David Coffey with the winners moving 2-14 to 0-7 ahead after 48 minutes. Dromina made a number of substituti­ons in the last quarter and in this period they added a goal and five points without reply, the goal by Pat Hayes as they progressed to the knockout stages. For Buttevant it was their biggest defeat in many years in this competitio­n. They now face a tough losers round game against Shanballym­ore.
