Cork kidney group tees up golf classic in Mitchelstown
THE Cork branch of the Irish Kidney Association is holding its first annual golf classic on July 1 in Mitchelstown Golf Club.
Kidney failure affects over 5000 people in this country, with many of these people on life saving dialysis treatment three times a week - or even every night, depending on the type of dialysis they require. To help those affected, the Cork branch is seeking sponsorship of what should be a great golf outing and social event.
“We aim to make this our main fundraiser for the year and we appreciate support for such a worthy cause,” said Mr Pat O’Sullivan, secretary of Cork Branch Irish Kidney Association. Pat will also be well known as the operations control manager, for Ireland South, at Mallow railway station, and as former chairman of Mallow Chamber.
The IKA provides additional aid to the standard welfare entitlements. Welfare entitlements do not take account of the life-long aspect of the illness, involving long periods of dependency on welfare and reduced levels of employment and extra costs directly associated with the patient’s particular treatment.
These costs can include basic needs of travel to and from dialysis centres, visits to medical practitioners, adhering to a prescribed diet level, drugs, medication costs and education grants.
“We are asking [businesses] to help with sponsorship on the day,” said Pat. “Sponsorship of tee boxes and greens are available at €100 each.
“Alternatively, you can enter a team at a cost of €150 for a team of three; this will include a meal in the clubhouse after the team finishes.”
