EXAMINATIO­NS

Best wishes and good luck to all students from the local area who are sitting their Junior and Leaving Certificat­e examinatio­ns for the next few weeks. This is indeed a trying and stressful time for these students and it the culminatio­n of all their studies throughout their second level education programme. All students teachers and parents are to be commended for their perseveren­ce and dedication to to their tasks which will no doubt be well rewarded with top-class results later on in the year.

STREETSCAP­E

What a relief it was to witness the free-flowing traffic through Buttevant as the roadworks were suspended for the bank holiday weekend. With the roadworks progressin­g rapidly it will not be long till the project is completed and the people of Buttevant will again have their street and footpaths returned to them.

Priority Contractor­s are to be congratula­ted on their excellent work and continuos perseveran­ce in their pursuance of excellence throughout the whole project. When completed we will have a town to be proud of and everybody will be determined to show ‘pride of place’ in their place of inhabitanc­e.

HERITAGE TOURS

Buttevant Heritage Group is again this year organising its annual heritage tours of the town of Buttevant. These tours can be most informativ­e and have in the past attracted quite a following. The tours are held on Saturday afternoons and commence from outside St Mary’s Church, Buttevant. The tours are approxiama­tely of an hour’s duration and take in all the historical and places of interest within the town. The tours commence on June 11 and continue till August 27 inclusive. With the recent national television coverage there will no doubt be added interest in the Buttevant area.

BUTTEVANT SOCCER CLUB

The annual general meeting of Buttevant Soccer Club is being held on Tuesday, June 14. The meeting will take place on the clubhouse and will commence at 7.30 p.m. A good attendance is acticipate­d as this is the time when the members and intending members are invited to voice their opinions concerning club matters and their functions. An own invitation is extended to all interested members of the public.

Congratula­tions to the club’s senior team who won the county cup final at Turners’ Cross Cork on Monday. Well done to all concerned. will be a 5km fun/jog or walk commencing at the grounds at 12 noon.

Activities for the afternoon include children’s sports, adult football game featuring teams from Ingredient Solutions, Coop/Super Valu, Billy Murphys and the Corner House Bar.

All kinds of goodies will be available including a barbeque, bouncing castle, face painting, etc. Something for all the family, so go along and meet your neighbours and enjoy a family day out in a safe environmen­t.

In addition of course, there will be numerous side shows and challenges to test the best. 2-5pm and admission is free.

Boherbue Girl Guides wish to sincerely thank everyone who attended their coffee morning on Saturday last and who contribute­d so generously.

GOLF

The local Golf Society play the captain’s (Andrew Daly) prize on this Saturday, June 11 at Mallow Golf Club. Tee time is 1-2pm and new members are welcome. Contact Club Hon Secretary Joe Heffernan on 029 76132.
