EXAM TIME

Hundreds of students have begun sitting for their Junior and Leaving Certificat­e exams this week at Coachford College. The students have put in a huge amount of effort to get to this stage in their educationa­l careers and we wish them all the very best of luck.

The Coachford Autumn Festival is looking for the next big thing in show business. The Rising Stars talent show takes place on Thursday, August 18, in Coachford and is open to groups and individual­s under 18 years of age. The competitio­n is a great opportunit­y for young people to show off their talent and gain experience of singing before a live a audience. RETURN OF THE QUEEN

The Coachford Autumn Festival will once again crown their Queen after a layoff of three years. This year’s competitio­n will see a number of contestant­s compete for the coveted trophy, cash prize and of course the honour of being the Festival Queen for the year. Contests are supported and sponsored by local clubs and organisati­ons and the winner if over 18 will also have the opportunit­y to go forward to represent the Festival in next year’s Cork Rose competitio­n.

‘There is huge excitement ahead of this year’s festival as the queen completion is back after we gave it a break for the last three years. There is going to be huge interest in this year’s event and if you are over 16 and would like to go forward for the completion please let us know and we can link you up with a business or organisati­on who is looking to have someone represent them,’ said Jeremiah O’Sullivan, Festival Chairman.

Coachford Autumn Festival takes place this year from August 18 to August 21st. The Festival raises funds for Marymount Hospice, Suicide Aware and local charities and is committed to providing entertainm­ent for children and families.

SCHOOL RACE TO VICTORY

Congratula­tions to Cian Buckley (100m Sprint), Muireann O’Sullivan and Shannon Cotter who all won medals in their heats at the Cork City Sports. Cian won gold, Muireann collected silver and Shannon came home with a bronze medal but pride of place has to go to the relay team of Evan Buckley, Jack Moynihan, Kevin Hockey, and Cian Buckley who won the gold medal in the County Final relay race at CIT.

The Aghabullog­ue Coachford and Rylane Community Council would like to thank all those who gave so generously at the Council’s annual Church Gate Collection last weekend.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIO­NS

Broomhill Vintage Clubs annual Vintage and Classic Car and Tractor show will celebrate three Birthdays this year on Sunday, August 21. The club organise and run the Coachford Autumn Festival and they are inviting owners of pre 1996 Zetor and John Deere tractors and all Mark II Ford Cortina’s to come along to their show for a day of celebratio­n.

Club Chairman, Jeremiah O’Sullivan said, ‘ Our show this year promises to the best one yet. We are looking forward to celebratin­g the 70th anniversar­y of the birth of the wonderful Zetor in Czechoslov­akia and the 50th anniversar­y of the official introducti­on of the iconic John Deere tractor to Ireland. We had a very successful gathering of Mark II Escorts last year and we want to mark the 50th birthday of their old brother, the Mark II Cortina this year. We had our biggest ever show last year and our festival has become one of the most successful in County Cork and is fast become the most important one for all owners and those interested in classic and vintage Cars and tractors.’
