Ballyclough community tribute to Linda

-

ON May 24, 2016 when news filtered through that Linda Glasset had lost her short but intense battle with cancer, a deep sadness came over the parish of Ballyclough and the wider community.

Linda was well liked and respected, and her bubbly personality endeared her to all. A testament to that was the huge crowd who attended her removal and funeral Mass.

As a member of Ballyclough Bowling Club she won the north east regional championships and contested a county final.

Linda was a skilled footballer and won county at under age and junior level with Castlemagner, and she wore the black and amber with pride.

Her talent as a footballer was recognised at an early age and she was drafted onto the cork panel at under age and progressed to the cork juniors where she acquitted herself with distinction, before a serious leg injury had her career prematurely ended.

Her love for Cork was evident to be seen as she would be dressed in full regalia on a Cork match day, whether it be hurling or football.

Linda was a Ballyclough supporter and words of encouragement and support were always heard when attending a Ballyclough match.

She was also deeply involved in darts and stood shoulder to shoulder with male team mates and opponents at many games.

Linda’s love for her dogs was well known and it started at a young age when she would accompany her father, Billy, to open coursing meetings. When the day’s coursing was finished and everyone was back for the presentation and refreshments it never took too long for people to figure out Linda was a beautiful singer and she would be asked over and over again for one more song, including Tipperary On My Mind.

Austin O’Neill, on behalf of the Ballyclough Community, sends sincere sympathy to her husband Dave, parents Billy and Theresa and extended family by saying she was simply the best.
