Another busy week for Mallow’s overstretched Tidy Towns group

-

IT has been a busy week for Mallow Tidy Towns with planting taking place at Tip O’Neill Park and at the bus stop on the Park Road.

Most of the planting this year is permanent planting of rose bushes and shrubs which gives an all year round impact.

Rapid and immediate action had to be taken to save the beech trees at the bridge. In a matter of hours they became infested with the Saw Fly. It is hoped the ‘nuking’ MTT gave the pest will allow the trees to recover but only time will tell.

Saturday morning was given to cleaning up the weeds on the bridge and the group avoided removing the wild flowers growing on the outside walls given that last year’s tidy towns report complemented them.

Sadly, it is unlikely that Mallow Tidy Towns will be able to continue to deliver for Mallow into the future.

MTT no longer has enough volunteers to deliver projects such as Bowling Green, Cork Rd, Tip O’Neill Park, Gilbert Rock Garden, Muddy Hill etc.

Projects of that size take a lot of physical commitment, money and time. MTT urgently need a boost in numbers taking part so that the town that you live in can look so much better.

Please take up the challenge and spend as little as one hour with them as. It can make such a difference.

MTT meet at 8am and 10.30am on Saturday mornings and at 7.30pm during the summer months.
