Lyre remembers Amanda on memorable walk

- JOHN TARRANT

THE sun didn’t exactly shine, yet it failed to dampen the enthusiasm of the Lyre public who put on their walking shoes in memory of the late Amanda O’Dwyer at a popular sponsored walk.

Despite the damp conditions but balmy weather, the overwhelming numbers confirmed the popularity and respect for the late Amanda, who sadly passed away in 2014.

Her memory is not forgotton, and the sponsored walk raised funds for Marymount Hospice along the way.

Lyre Development Group spokesperson Billy Murphy said the staging was a tremendous show of solidarity and community spirit.

“Despite the weather, everybody who came along could not but be deeply touched by the turnout on this special day.

“Thanks to all who helped organise the day, the refreshments served afterwards, the stewards and first aid people. The day will go down as one of the highlights of the year,” he said.

The O’Dwyer family headed the impressive turnout, Pearse joined by children, Aoife, Ryan and Aine got the colourful troupe up and away from Lyre Community Hall for a 5km circuit over picturesque countryside.

“Young and old participated in a fitting and fond tribute to the late Amanda,” said Billy. “The atmosphere of family and unity was both memorable and enjoyable.

“The proceeds from the walk will be donated to Marymount Hospice”, he added.
