Exiting championship games anticipated in Muskerry this weekend

and last season’s all conquering Béal Athan Ghaorthaidh Junior (B) Football Team will face Donoughmore.

Considering it is their second choice squad this Béal Athan Ghaorthaidh side have performed well this season and in the opening round they took a very strong Ballincollig side to a replay.

Donoughmore did not perform well in their first round game when they were well beaten by Kilmichael and they will need to display improvement on Friday to avoid elimination from the championship race.

The second game listed for Friday will involve two clubs in the division who have yet to capture the blue riband of Muskerry football. The Clubs are Aghinagh and Dripsey who have both contested finals on a few occasions.

Aghinagh contested the 2014 final with Kilmurry when the latter finished the stronger side to come out on top following an excellent hours football. Aghinagh subsequently captured the 2014 league title but they had a disappointing season in 2015. Dripsey’s first entry into the GAA scene in Muskerry was in 2005 and they celebrated that entry with a Junior (B) Football Championship success: they have since proved to be formidable contenders at Junior (A) level contesting finals in 2008, 2009 and 2011. They have slightly come up short on each occasion but they continue to make their presence felt in Muskerry’s Premier Football Championship. They will make a bold effort for victory on Friday with players like John Carey, Diarmuid O’Riordan, Gary Murphy and Conor Hayes likely to be their leading figures in their effort. Donal Corkery, Dave Barry, Declan Ambrose and Sean Kelleher will be to the forefront of Aghinagh’s victory effort in a contest that could go down to the wire at Ovens.

The Junior Football contest at Clondrohid on Sunday should see Eire Óg having the edge on Naomh Abán as the former were a much more impressive side than the Ballyvourney side in their respective first round games.

In the Junior Hurling Championship game at Cloughduv on Sunday evening Iveleary are slightly fancied to overcome the Gleann na Laoi challenge.
