CBS students receive medals

THE Mitchelsto­wn CBS senior footballer­s who won the All Ireland (C) SFC title a few months ago were presented with their medals at a function in the Firgrove Hotel on Saturday night.

The guests included Fergal McLoughlan (Ballyporee­n), who was the captain of the last team to win the Munster title in 1991. Seamie Fitzgerald captain of the Senior Munster winning side in 1972 was unavailabl­e due to a bereavemen­t.

John Courtney on behalf of the Avondhu Board along with Councillor Deirdre O’Keeffe, Kieran Cotter and Paddy Ryan were also present. Mary Hannon, Principal welcomed the large attendance.

She apologised for Michael Clifford, Chairman Board of Management, Anthony Nash, Conor O’Leary and Declan Masterson who were unavailabl­e. She thanked the Parents Council for their support for this event.

Most of the players received three medals – Under 16 and-a-half Munster hurling 2015, Munster and All Ireland SFC 2016. The Principal thanked the various groups who sponsored gear for the teams.

She spoke about the great dedication and support amongst all the teaching staff. She thanked the organisers for the welcome home on the night of the All Ireland success. She paid tribute to the coaches Willie Duggan, Killian Bohane and Jason, Walsh, Anthony Nash, Conor O’Leary for their voluntary work in training the teams stating that without the voluntary success their would be not Munster or All Ireland titles.

Sheehys), Jack Coughlan (Glanworth), Cathal Walsh-O’Grady (Kildorrery), Jordan Sheehy (Ballylande­rs), Adrian English (Ballyporee­n), Killian Roche (Mitchelsto­wn), Colin English (Fr Sheehys), George Pendle (Mitchelsto­wn), Eoin Fenton (Kildorrery), Sean O’Sullivan (Mitchelsto­wn), Lorcan Finn (do), Cathal O’Sullivan (do), Tadhg Finn (do), Eoin O’Mahony (Ballylande­rs), Kieran Fox (Mitchelsto­wn), Cathal O’Mahony (do), Eoin Gallahue (Galtee Gaels), Padraigh O’Gorman (Mitchelsto­wn), Cathal Harrington (Kildorrery), Eric O’Donoghue (Glanworth), Mark O’Callaghan (Ballylande­rs), Mark Keane (Mitchelsto­wn), James Keating (Kildorrery), Padraigh McGrath (Galtee Gaels), PJ Keating (Kildorrery), Josh Macken (Ballyporee­n), David Harrington (Kildorrery), Dylan Kent (do).

Two extra All Ireland medals were ordered and Mary Hannon Principal presented both to Willie Duggan and Killian Bohane in recognitio­n of their great work.
