July racing festival set to ignite summertime
SUMMERTIME in Killarney just wouldn’t be the same without the spectacular sense of occasion created by Killarney Races. One of the most historic and scenic meets anywhere in Ireland, summer racing in Killarney offers a modern experience in a timeless setting and few meetings can boast of a vibrant tradition stretching back to 1822, with the present course home to racing in Killarney since 1936.
This year’s July meeting runs from Monday 11th to Thursday 14th with a mixture of top class National Hunt and Flat racing. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are evening meetings and offer an ideal opportunity to unwind with friends after a long day at work, while evening meetings are also a great way start off that perfect evening’s socialising as you enjoy some quality racing prior to heading out for a night on the town.
Thursday is an afternoon meeting and includes the ever popular Dawn Milk Ladies’ Day where one lucky winner will win a luxury escape for two to Paris and a specially commissioned crystal vase. So all aspiring ‘Queen of Fashion’ competitors take note.
The event always attracts a capacity crowd as the prizes are amazing and if stunning hats is your forte, note the ‘Most Stylish Hat’ competition winner will receive a trip for two to one of the world’s fashion capitals – Milan, plus a specially commissioned crystal vase. There will also be runner-up prizes in both categories. However, the biggest prize of all is the pure glory of being the winner of one of the most prestigious Ladies’ Days in the racing calendar.
The family evening will open the festival on Monday 11 July and this includes a dedicated children’s entertainment area with Bouncy Castles, Face Painting and lots more to entertain kids of all ages.
On Wednesday the Racecourse will host some of the Rose of Tralee contestants, and their escorts, which is sure to add that extra bit of glamor to the occasion. So be sure to start planning those outfits and start studying the form and maybe you can get lucky and win big this month at the Killarney July Racing Festival.
