Summer festival is building up to an explosive finale

A VERY lively ‘week 1’ of the Newmarket Summer Festival 2016 is almost complete and there’s another week coming up filled with great fun events.

On this Thursday night at 9pm the Hi-Street Bar presents the festival table quiz. Teams of four are €30. Raffle in aid of ‘ The Thursday Club’. Do arrive early as this event has been very well attended over the last few years.

On Friday night at 9pm Scully’s Bar presents a Fr Ted Night where there will be a DJ - with more than one record. Prize for loveliest Jumper! Play ‘Fr Jackaroo’ – the Newmarket version of lifesize Buckaroo! Nice prizes!

On Saturday the 9th, since the carnival is in town, Relish have decided that it should be ‘ Tapas Time’. First orders at 4pm – last orders 9pm.

Saturday evening at 7:30pm Newmarket GAA pitch is the place to be for the Past vs Present Junior Hurling Challenge Match, where old dogs who should know better try to catch hold of young whippets running rings around them.

At 9pm Dan Hourigan’s present the final of the Festival Darts Tournament.

On Sunday the 10th there will be a Bring & Buy from 1-6pm in the CYMS featuring the Wheel of Fortune. Organisers are charging €10 per table. It’s an opportunit­y for a spring clean in the summer. Even if you’re not selling come on up you might find a hidden gem and remember that one man’s rubbish is another man’s treasure!

The Cannonball run will be on at 8pm (incorrectl­y advertised for 10pm on our fliers) followed by an impressive fireworks finale at 11pm.
