Fantastic weekend at the Féile Peil

THE national John West Feile Peil U14 football was held in Kerry, North Cork and West Limerick over the weekend and Kanturk played its part, hosting Coralstown-Kinnegad ( Westmeath).

In the opening games on Friday last, 24th June, Kanturk travelled to Kilshannig and defeated the host team by 2-09 to 1-04 and had to come from behind to draw with Boyle (Roscommon) on a 1-6 score line each.

On Saturday morning Kanturk drew with their visitors, Coralstown-Kinnigad, on a 2-6 each score line.

Kanturk and Boyle, who topped the group, went forward to the division 3 quarter finals, and Kanturk were well defeated by a physically stronger South London side, 0-1 to 4-5, with the overseas side going onto take the cup for the fourth time.

In the Shield competitio­n, our visitors, Coralstown-Kinnigad, went on to defeat Castlegreg­ory (Kerry) in the final by 1-4 to 1-2.

On Friday night Kanturk Ladies football hosted a barbecue at the Kanturk GAA grounds for both girls and boys teams along with their visitors from Sligo and Westmeath.

Then on Saturday night, 25th June, Kanturk Juvenile GAA, assisted with help from Kanturk Community Counci and Kanturk Chamber of Commerce, hosted one of the regional Feile parades which saw over 30 teams parade through Kanturk from Banteer Road, through Strand St, O’Brien St and to the Kanturk Town Park where an open air disco was held and plenty food was available from local vendors.

It was a culminatio­n of a great weekend with many new friendship­s forged with our visiting teams.
