Boherbue Golf Society played the captain’s prize on Saturday, June 18, at Mallow. This year’s captain is Andrew Daly, Cork. Results were as follows: First Aidan Moynihan (Cork) 40 points; second John McAuliffe (Boherbue) 36 points; third Andy Daly Jnr, Mallow 35 points; Best gross Tadgh Leahy, Boherbue; fourth Tony Walsh, Belfast; fifth Ann Sheahan, Cork; sixth Frank Sheahan, Cork; first nine Andy Daly, Cork; second nine Gerald O’Connell, Boherbue. FUN DAY

The GAA club parish fun day is again scheduled for this Sunday, July 3, having been postponed on a number of occasions due to weather conditions. However, the waiting is now almost over and the excitement for both young and old and particular­ly families is at an all time high. The afternoon gets under way with a 5km walk, jog or trot which commences at midday.

The sports start at 2 p.m. while there will be numerous novelty events including an inter firm Pub Football game which should see some former stars show off their skills to the younger folk.

Also there will be bouncing castle, shops, barbeque, penalty taking, and all the fun of the fair. Admission is free so go along and enjoy a parish day together – hopefully the weather plays its part.

DUCON CUP

With a spirited team performanc­e Boherbue Junior A footballer­s carved out a one point victory over a fancied Cullen side in the Ducon Cup semi-final played at Millstreet on Saturday evening last.

It was a contest that produced some excellent scores, lacked nothing with lots of determinat­ion with the slicker Boher boys snatching a well deserved victory. See sports pages in this paper for full match report. Best of luck against Lyre in the final.

NEW PRIEST

Buttevant has a new parish priest installed as a replacemen­t for Fr Michael Fitzgerald who has been transferre­d to by parish priest of Blarney, County Cork. In his short period of residence in Buttevant Fr Fitzgerald was involved in many local events and organisati­ons. He is being replaced by Fr Eugene Baker who come to Buttevant having served in many parishes throughout the diocese of Cloyne, most recently Newtownsha­ndrum. We wish them both well in their new parishes.

OUTING

The annual Avondhu/Blackwater Community Day Trip takes place on July 14. The trip will first visit Griffin’s Garden Centre in Dripsey, County Cork around 10.30 a.m. Then the trip will travel to Ballincoll­ig for lunch at 2 p.m. where there will be ample time to take in some shopping in Cork’s largest satellite town. The overall cost inclusive for this trip is €40 and immediate booking should be made by telephonin­g 022 23564.

BINGO

The weekly bingo session continues on Monday night in the local GAA hall where there are numerous monetary prizes to be won. There is a bingo jackpot of €2,800 and an in-house lottery of €320. There is also an extra sheet game of €350 to be won as well as many other numerous prizes. You support will be greatly appreciate­d.

SOCCER CLUB MEETING

Buttevant soccer club held its annual general meeting recently at which there was a large attendance. Under the new Presidency of Mick Lawless the club faces into another what is hoped will be a very successful season for the club.

Gordon Carroll is the club chairman with John Curtin as Secretary and Mick Burke as club Treasurer. Other positions are filled by Denis O’Reilly Stephen Relihan Oliver Doody and with a committee that includes Niall Ellard Liam Crowley Tracy O’Reilly Denis Bowles Mick O’Riordan Mick Collins Tony Collins and Dace Hassett. Wishing the club every success for the coming season.

SUMMER CAMP

The local soccer club is promoting their annual summer camp under the auspices of the FAI from July 18 to July 22 inclusive at th club’s ground New Street, Buttevant. The camp is open to boys and girls aged six to 12 (born from 2004 to 2009). Entry forms are available from the clubhouse or by telephonin­g 022 41025 or 087 9266890 without delay.

BIKE RUN

Plans are well advanced for the annual Mick Regan Bike/Fun Run following a meeting recently held in Kit’s Bar, Buttevant. This event is well supported and attracts a huge field of motor-bike enthusiast­s. Early intention or notificati­on of participat­ion is advisable and all informatio­n can be had from any committee member or from Kit’s Bar which is the headquarte­rs for this annual event. The event takes place in early July.

SYMPATHY

Sympathy is extended to those who have suffered a bereavemen­t or personal loss recently.

WELL WISHES

Well wishes go to those who are ill at home or in hospital at this time. Tullamore on this Sunday, July 3. They compete in turbo javelin.

The following weekend, July 9 and 10 it will be time for the All-Ireland Juvenile B on the Saturday with the first day of the main qualifiers on the Sunday. Saturday and Sunday, July 23 and 24, it will be day 2 and three of the main championsh­ips.

Currently Liscarroll AC will have 10 athletes in action over the three days. Depending on the withdrawal of other athletes, who have over qualified in events we may be lucky enough to have another one or two added to this list.

In the meantime, training which was disrupted for various reasons over the past week or two should be able to revert back to their normal days and times. Mondays and Thursdays in Liscarroll 6.30 to 8 p.m. Fridays in Charlevill­e, also at 6.30 p.m. Parents are requested to check with coaches, regarding finishing times each evening, just in case of an early finish.

DROMCOLLOG­HER SPORTS – Dromcollog­her Sports which are mainly sprints, middle distance, and relays, take place on Wednesday next, July 6, at 7.30 p.m. Programme of events not yet available.

FANAHAN McSWEENEY SPORTS – These sports will be held on Friday, July 15, in Araglin. This sports will consist of sprints, middle distance, shot put, high jump, ball throw or turbo javelin and relays and very suitable to athletes who may not have track experience and well worth a visit.

ALL-IRELAND JUNIORS – The All-Ireland Juniors will be held at Tullamore this Saturday. Vickie Cusack will compete in the 400m and Kevin O’Leary in the 100m hurdles.

TAILTEANN GAMES – Three club athletes travelled to Santry, Dublin last weekend with results as follows: Ciara Sheehy: First in shot putt; Katie Moynihan: Second in javelin; Vickie Cusack: second with relay team.

These athletes will have gained from their experience which should be beneficial to them as they prepare for their All-Ireland Championsh­ips.
