Amber Oil to create 38 new jobs with opening of new €3 million Charleville site
THERE was welcome news on the jobs front in Charleville this week following the opening of the new Amber service station in the town with the creation of 38 full and part-time positions.
In May of last year the Fermoy-based company confirmed it had purchased the former Kirk’s service station for an undisclosed fee.
In the intervening year the company has invested €3 million into the Charleville premises, part of a €7.9 million programme that also saw the company upgrade sites in Fermoy, Glounthaune and Horse and Jockey in addition to the development of a new site in Tipperary town.
The company, established in Fermoy in 1980 by the Fitzgerald family, has a grown to become one of Munster’s largest fuel retailers supplying 45 sites across nine counties.
The addition of the 38 jobs at the newly opened Charleville site brings the total workforce within the Amber Group to more than 250 employees.
Amber Oil managing director, Liam Fitzgerald, described the 500 sq metre Charleville station, which also boasts a full-seated restaurant, solid fuel centre and associated facilities as “the jewel in Amber’s crown.”
“We’ve had our eye on Charleville for some time. Our team has vast experience in analysing sites for the necessary conditions to be successful and we feel that Charleville has ticked all the boxes,” said Mr Fitzgerald.
“Our ethos of fostering long-term relations with customers, suppliers and staff has served us well and brought strong growth opportunities to us over the past three years. I am thrilled with what we have achieved here in Charleville,” he added.
Amber Oil general manager, Kevin Rice, said the company had plans to further its network of stations, but was not looking currently looking at any other sites within the North Cork area.
“We fully intend to grow and expand the company and are always on the lookout for new prospects,” he said.
