Saddle up for the Loop Adventure challenge which will benefit local Mallow charities
THERE will be a fair few buckets of sweat lost but naturally toasty banter will be had along the way as the Loop Adventure Challenge will be held this month and all money raised will go to four local charities along with Kilbrin NS building fun.
Nicholas Corkery is part of the committee along with Garry Lawlor, James Crowley, Matt Casey, Jimmy Lawlor and Andy O’Sullivan. There are two loops which will take place on Sunday, July 24. The first is 27km ‘fun race’ which will go from Kilbrin to Ballyhass lakes and back.
However, for the 67km route for participants, it will start at Kilbrin Social Club and then participants will cycle to Ballyhass Adventure Park and take part in a 1km kayak around the lakes, they will then cycle from Ballyhass to Mount Hillary and do a 5km run at Mount Hillery and then its back on the bicycle to go to Ballyhass and back to Kilbrin Social club.
The fundraiser is all in aid of Mallow Day Care centre, Mallow Alzheimer’s, Mallow Search and Rescue, Loinnir Suicide Awareness and Kilbrin NS building fund.
Nicholas Corkery told The Corkman that all the local charities are worthy of support as they take care of both the young and old. He said the Loinnir Suicide Awareness support group has a very special place in his family’s heart as in September 10, 2010, they lost their brother Padraig who was 35 years-old to suicide.
“It’s something that you never forget. But for us as a family Loinnir greatly helped us when we were in a black hole when Padraig died,” said Nicholas.
Last year for the Loop Adventure Challenge, 99 participants took part but this year the on-line registration is already looking very healthy and will greatly surpass that number. Nicholas also issued a special word of thanks to Eoin at Ballyhass Lakes and Adventure Park as he said without their help the fundraiser would be a non-runner.
