Queens return to Coachford festival
COACHFORD Festival will see the return of the Queen of the Festival competition this year.
Taking place in August, 14 contestants will take to the stage in all their finery to impress the Judges, entertain the packed hall and appeal to those in the audience to vote for them. The winners will receive the crown, a cash prize and a chance to go forward to the Cork Rose 2017 competition.
This year all the funds raised from the Queen competition will go to Marymount Hospice.
The contestants are sponsored by local businesses and organisations across the Lee Valley and is always one of the highlights of the ever popular festival.
Meanwhile, the Coachford Autumn Festival is also planning on having a huge display of trade stands at this year’s event on Sunday, August 21.
Last year saw a wonderful array of traditional trade stands and some excellent food stalls at the Farmers Market. Trade was very busy all day as huge numbers attended this ever popular festival in the GAA grounds in Coachford.
“We are really looking forward to a very busy Festival Sunday again this year”, said Jer O’Sullivan, festival chairperson. “Our line up of vintage and classic cars & tractors draws a massive attendance and when this is backed up by a huge array of side shows, from egg throwing to ‘fittest family’, children’s sports, bonny baby competition, dunk tank, model toy show, Cross Bar Challenge, hurling target game and funfair then you can imagine how all this attracts great numbers to the festival.”
